Poems & SayingsPets for adoptionChoosing the right dogWhy Spay/ Neuter?A Day with the Dogs
You ask how you can this be done, it is actually very easy. Spread the word on why people should spay and neuter their pets. Most people who come to these web cite know why it is important to have their animal altered, but there are those out there who don't. You ask what to say to these people, I have a few arguments that help.

First question: Why do I want to spay my pet.

Answer one: The over population answer.

One female cat can have between 4 to 6 kittens every 4 months after its first heat cycle. Now lets say only 2 or 3 of them are female, in about 6 to 8 months that female will go into heat and start producing kittens at the same rate. This can get out of hand in 1 years time. You can have anywhere between 12 to 22 kittens in the house in a year in a half. The worst part of a cat is it is either in heat or pregnant. Male cats get into fights, to be able to breed with the females, and this leads to accesses and deadly diseases. They can also be very grumpy creatures and are the one who will lash out the most.

Dogs: The females in the Phoenix area can go into heat every 6 months. So we basically have the same problem as we do with the cats, just not as bad. The males can and DO get aggressive. If there is a female in heat next door or 2 blocks down they will be able to smell her. They will do anything to get to her, and if they are not able to, they seem to get a little testy about it.

Answer 2:

Health reasons:
Female dogs that are not altered can get what is called Pyrometritis. What this is where the uterus fills up with puss until it explodes in the abdomen. This can and will kill the female if left untreated in a very short period of time. It is fixed surgically where they go in and spay the dog but the surgery is a lot more expensive because of the risks involved. Your looking at about $1000.00 to $2000.00 depending on where you go. They can also have a problem passing the puppies. The puppies get caught in the birth canal and they have to be removed surgically. Your looking at about the same price because of the risks involved to both the mother and pups.
Then of course if the female dog gets older there is the possibility of them getting breast cancer.  Males  have the testicular cancer and prostate cancer to deal with,  they can also get tumors around to anus that break open and bleed all over the place.

The statement that always makes me laugh is " I want to give my child the experience of birth". I have a 11 year old daughter that have been involved with animals her whole life, and I know for a fact she doesn't care about birth. She never has and probably never will. I know she love animals and has since she was little, but she kind of views them like toys. There fun to play with for a while but there are other toys in the box. As for seeing the birthing processes, yes it is a part of life but it is gross. There is green stuff and blood and all sorts of things that go with that, and it never happens in the day. I don't know about you but when she goes to sleep and the house is all quiet I really do not want to wake her up to hear " Oh gross, Mom" and watch her go back to bed.

Question 2: Where can I go to get my pet spayed or neutered where it won't cost an arm and a leg.

Answer:  There are places in the Phoenix area Called The Spay Neuter Clinics. That is what they do, so the prices are very reasonable. We recommend North Phoenix Spay Neuter Clinic At 16th Street and Bell road They do a very good job and we have not had any problems with them. There number is 602-787-4240. If you are not close to them there are other Spay Neuter Clinics, call around you will find one.

So there is all the information that helps me and the rescue to get people to think about Spaying and neutering. I know God gave them the ability to reproduce but He also gave us the knowledge to control it. So I ask you again Spread the word. Tell people to check with their Vets if they have anymore questions or email us at pets2homes@cox.net, and if we don't know the answer we will find it for you.
